Hi, I’m Nick, co-founder and Game Master of the Royal Players’ Guild

I have been an unapologetic nerd for my entire life. I have always been more than willing to suspend my disbelief and immerse myself into fantasy. As a young lad, that meant spending my free time losing myself in various video games, books and any other media that I could get my hands on. Some of my earliest memories are of watching countless fantasy and sci-fi movies with my parents (who are also massive nerds).

To put it lightly, I have read, watched, listened to and played quite a lot of fantasy stories in my life and ten years ago, I decided that it was time to start creating my own stories. I had heard about Dungeons and Dragons and I wanted to try it, but I didn’t know anyone that played, so I picked up the rule books. I read them cover to cover (like an absolute psycho) and I began to construct stories and worlds to play them in. I was hooked.Since then I have run hundreds of games, and my love for tabletop RPGs has only grown. I am bringing that love and passion to the table (haha) at the Royal Players’ Guild.

RPG as a whole aims to offer a fully immersive experience from the moment you walk in to the Ren Faire to the moment you leave. That will include a host of live action roleplay moments, big decisions, interactive characters and a larger than life tabletop adventure. That’s where I come in. My job as Game Master is to direct the tabletop portion of the Royal Players’ Guild experience. That means writing the adventures, tweaking game mechanics, creating 3D terrain and minis and, you guessed it, running some of the actual games. Basically if it has to do with rolling dice, I’m involved.

Imagine that you’re sitting inside an actual pirate ship looking over the battle map in front of you. The sound of cannon fire booms as you roll your d20 to attack the pirate staring you down. Or a dense forest, overgrown and thick with wild magic. You position your beautifully painted miniature to ambush an unsuspecting enemy. Now place yourself inside a dark and dangerous crypt, fully rendered to scale with lovingly crafted and painted terrain. You hear the sounds of scuffling around the corner as your torch gutters out, plunging the table into absolute darkness. Roll initiative…

We will bring these experiences to life at our tables. We have already gotten to work writing and playtesting these adventures to make them as amazing as they can possibly be. There is a lot of work left to do, but where there’s a team of hardworking and dedicated nerds, there’s a way. I have never been more excited and driven to work on something than I am now, and it’s honestly because I care about the final product. I truly believe that we will be able to deliver a roleplaying experience unlike anything else, and I am beyond grateful to be a part of it.

Over the coming weeks, we will be keeping you all up to date on the tabletop stuff and everything else over on our socials! I have some cool ideas for terrain, and for some great stories, but the rest of the team is cooking up (sometimes literally) some mind-blowing stuff so make sure to stay up to date!
